Avatar 3D ILM to the rescue ---About a year ago, with James Cameron’s science-fiction epic “Avatar” well under way, it became clear that Weta Digital, the visual effects studio doing much of the computer generated imagery (or CGI) on the project, was a bit in over its head. At that point, the movie, was about 40 minutes longer than it ended up being, and what was needed to finish the project was another company that could come in and lend a helping hand--and do so at the same, very high level, that Weta was working at. And that’s where Industrial Light & Magic came in, recalled John Knoll, the Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor tasked with parachuting in to help finish what was, more than on most films, the crucial job of crafting the “Avatar” CGI work.
What followed was months of coordination between ILM, Weta, and Cameron’s production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, with a primary goal of ensuring that the two visual effects teams, one in San Francisco and the other in New Zealand, avoided any unnecessary duplication of effort, even as both sometimes found themselves working on effects for the same movie sequences. ILM also did the effects work on the film’s final battle scene, taking responsibility for the shots of all the vehicles taking off, as well as the sequence’s cockpit interior shots.

George was so impressed with the movie’s technology – which took home the trophy for Best Motion Picture – Drama at the 2010 Globes – that he thinks it could help pave the way for creating 3-D versions of his “Star Wars” movies. ”I’m happy it’s so successful, and worked very well in 3-D,” he continued. “Haven’t been a big fan of 3-D, but that movie definitely improves in (the field of) 3-D.”
If Lucas goes through with plans to return all six Star Wars to theaters in the 3D. It will be the second time that the original Star Wars Trilogy has been rereleased back on the big screen. “We’ve been looking for years and years and years of trying to take ‘Star Wars’ and put it in 3-D,” George explained to Access. “But, the technology hasn’t been there. We’ve been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen.” George LUCAS is currently working on “Red Tails,” The first African-American pilots to fly in a combat squadron during World War II.

JAMES CAMERON AVATAR IN REAL D 3D
AVATAR 3D takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of Titanic, first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR 3D, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary 3D technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.
JAMES CAMERON > "KING OF THE WORLD"
Call him the “King of the World” -- or, at the least, “King of the Box Office.” James Cameron, the director behind 1997’s mega-blockbuster “Titanic,” is now released a film he’s been waiting to make his whole life. “Avatar,” his AVATAR 3-D science-fiction fantasy, embodies his childhood love of imaginary creatures and his obsession with pushing the envelope.

(CBS) 3D or not 3D, that is the question. Hollywood has been making false starts and false promises about 3D since the 1950s. Now comes director Jim Cameron, who is unveiling a movie in mid-December that could settle the argument about the staying power of 3D once and for all. Cameron, of course, directed “Titanic,” the most profitable movie ever made. And he famously declared himself “King of the World” when Titanic won 11 Oscars in 1998. Since then he has been immersed in a wildly ambitious and very expensive 3D science fiction fantasy that mixes real actors with computer generated creatures, the sum of which he believes will change the movie business forever.

In 1977, Cameron quit his job as a truck driver to enter the film industry. His first box-office hit was 1984’s “The Terminator,” which was inspired by a nightmare Cameron says he had about an invincible robot hitman sent from the future to kill him.
In addition to the first and second “Terminator” films, James Cameron has also directed memorable films such as “Aliens,” “The Abyss,” “True Lies” and “Titanic.”

AVATAR will transport you to a new world it is the most visually FANTASTIC film of its time. It will be hailed as the groundbreaking REAL D 3D release, setting new standards by which all blockbusters are measured. I am taking Avatar to the next level, with my new Home Cinema in place, I am now projecting an image that is 4m wide in 16:9 format and believe me ITS SPECTACULAR, Immersing oneself within a movie is the ONLY WAY to experience it.. I don't care how good your falt screen is.. once you experience a Home Cinema.. there is NO COMPARISON- I cant wait for the release of AVATAR 3D BLU-RAY! and OF COURSE Star Wars in Real D 3D!!
